Health officials estimate there are almost 600,000 uninsured children in Florida . This is the first time in 18 months new enrollees have been accepted into the KidCare program.
KidCare, a state-subsidized health insurance program for children of the working poor, has space this year for 389,515 children, but chaotic enrollment periods last fall and in January have left 160,000 slots vacant.
KidCare offers low-cost health coverage through private insurers to parents who make up to twice the poverty level. For example, a family of four with a household income of $38,700 or less could apply. Families must pay $15 to $20 a month for coverage.
The programs are jointly paid for by the federal, state and local governments, in addition to the family contributions.

KidCare

MediKids is a Florida KidCare Program (http://www.floridakidcare.org/). KidCare offers low-cost health insurance coverage for children ages 1 to 5 and is administered by the Agency for Health Care Administration.

All children eligible for the MediKids program have access to MediKids Choice Counseling services to assist them in registering their managed care provider choice. MediKids has a toll-free number available to access these services. Call 1-877-506-0578 .
